Capilano Suspension Bridge
Capilano Suspension Bridge Park - “100 Years”
The plan for this campaign was to create three images with the tag lines ”100 Years of Eagle Sightings”, “100 Years of Sunsets”, and “100 Years of Shooting Stars”, and so our first challenge was to create the exaggerated multiplication of those elements. Another thing we wanted to do was have the images visually flow together when seen side-by-side. So, we built the three ads together in one document. Across them, we composited together several separate images of mountains and rivers and trees to build a single landscape, which was then adjusted with different colour treatments for the different times of day. The skies were each built from two or more different sky pictures to get just the right feel, and then the shooting stars and setting suns were created in Photoshop, while the eagles were taken from a variety of photos.
The biggest challenge, however, was the bridge itself. Neither using a drone nor photographing from below were available options, so we had to shoot the bridge itself from an angle, through the trees. We took multiple shots with an assistant moving along the length of the bridge holding a red cloth (same idea as a green screen), which we used to extract the bridge to transparency. Parts of the bridge had to be separated, expanded and mirrored horizontally before finally all being rebuilt back together to get the final result.
